# Proper Fractions

Proper Fraction is a fraction in which numerator is less than denominator.

Examples of proper fractions are 1/5, 7/19, 127/128.

Note, that 5/5, 8/7, 125/3 are not proper fractions.

We saw example with cake, when talked about fractions. This is example of proper fractions.

Another example of proper fraction is when you divide rectangle into 7 parts and paint 5 parts: you paint 5/7.

Since in proper fraction numerator is less than denominator then proper fraction is less than one.
